Earthquake, Zinfandel, Lodi, California 2005

This is an interesting Zinfandel from Lodi, an area not known for particularly high quality wine. The limited production (6,000 cases) 2004 Earthquake Zin includes small quantities of Petite Sirah and Cabernet Sauvignon in the blend. Tipping the scales at a whopping 15.9% alcohol, it is a big, burly, earthy Zinfandel with abundant spice, fruit, and glycerin as well as a locomotive-like feel going across the palate. This well-balanced effort may merit an outstanding score from readers who like their Zinfandels muscular and super-charged. It will last for 4-5 years.
